General Tilney and Mrs. Tilney   Written by Joanna Y. (4/26/2003 1:23 a.m.)
Are you new?

So I was listening to the part where Catherine meets HT after leaving her mother's room and I knew what was coming and was dreading it. =( But I agree that Catherine did need that rebuke from Henry, and Henry truly is the gentleman not to bring it up but to in fact treat her with more kindness afterwards. That's so sweet!

But, the point of this post was not the rebuke itself, but rather: while I was listening to Henry's description of GT's relationship with mrs. Tilney, I wondered if he did indeed love her? Apparently life was not very pleasant for her, but he also apparently did have some affection for her. And do we have any clues on how she felt about him? I'd be very curious to know how they met and what induced them to marry e/o. Also, related to this, I wonder how GT felt about his children--do you think there was any love/affection, or was it all just as possessions to make himself look better?
