translation   Written by Emmeline (4/24/2003 7:22 a.m.) in consequence of the missive, GR: Translations: nice, d__ etc., penned by Helka Maria
Are you new?

] I'm very sorry that I haven't had opportunity to participate in the Group Read. I intended to do it, but due to health problems I couldn't. (No, nothing dangerous, be assured.)

I hope you are well now?

] But the word nice ! That passage is terrible in Finnish. Nice was translated as lovely , and believe me, it sounded stupid.

Translation is difficult sometimes, especially when you cannot find a word to fit when in one language it has more than one meaning but in another only one.

] All in all, I prefer to read NA (and other JA books as well) in English.

I too. Although I do like to read translations just to see how well translated they are. :)

] What do the native speaker's of English say about the language of NA? Do you find it stiff and unlikely?

Not at all, I like JA's language very much.
