] The point that comes out here, I think, is that Rumfords were new at the time of NA, so General Tilney was quick to install improvements.

In the notes to my copy of NA the commentator says that this improvement made Count Rumford so famous that Coleridge in 1796 used an occasional verb "to rumfordize" in the sense of "re-construct, perfect".
