GR: Brothers and Sisters: The Morlands and Thorpes, Week3   Written by Cheryl (4/15/2003 1:44 p.m.)
Are you new?

There is not much going on with the Morland and Thorpe siblings in this week’s chapters, so I thought I’d combine them.

Catherine is very concerned about James’ feelings in the whole Isabella/Capt. Tilney thing and tried to enlist Henry’s aid in putting a stop to it by getting him to warn off his brother. This sets the scene for another of Henry’s lessons in getting Catherine to reason and think for herself. And “The results of her observations were not agreeable”

In contrast, Isabella spends much energy in pleading her brother’s case. She accuses Catherine of being artful in her rejection of John, of inconstancy and flirting with his affections. When Catherine is vehement in her denials, Isabella drops the subject, but that may have been more as a result of seeing Capt. Tilney enter the Pump Room than because she was finished with her harangue.

So, while we do not see Catherine or Isabella interact with their brothers, both are busy promoting the welfare of their brothers to another, though they go about it in very different manners and with very different objectives.
