Right, those examples struck me as I read them, but then seemed to recede a bit. I keep reading here how awful the General is, though. What could cause such distaste? ("spoilers" warnings can't alter the tone of a post)

Maybe I've been putting too much emphasis on posts here. There seems to be a lot of animosity to the General and to Capt. Tilney so I keep looking for reasons for that - not altogether successfully.
