] Who could not believe in her sincerity? And who could not believe that the friendship of the Thorpes is doing her no good?

Oh yes, and this surely proves she is not afraid to humble herself to set things right. Is not that greatness of mind and a very valuable trait of character? It is not very hard to know you have been wrong, but to act upon it approach the one you owe an apology and say so without trying to hide your own mistake! I feel sure Henry admires this in her. Apart from being flattered by her obvious partiality for him.;-}
