GR: Brothers and Sisters: The Tilneys, Week2

They obviously enjoy their time together, we see them walking together in the Crescent, and planning a longer walk to Beecham Cliffs, for which Catherine joins them. They are both well-read, read the same books, and even read them together – when Henry doesn’t steal the book, that is! They have a nice (there’s that word again!), easy way of talking together, talking with depth but also teasing each other. I liked this exchange: "And now, Henry," said Miss Tilney, "that you have made us understand each other, you may as well make Miss Morland understand yourself--unless you mean to have her think you intolerably rude to your sister, and a great brute in your opinion of women in general. Miss Morland is not used to your odd ways." Catherine is bemused, but charmed by them both. I think she is beginning to see a new kind of sibling relationship, quite different from what she sees with the Thorpes and different from her own as well. |
