] I imagine Isabella would have enough "social graces" to make a tolerable companion for half an hour or so. And I doubt that anyone could think that Catherine was like Isabella who had ever seen her... Catherine's candour and innocence being so easy to see... But of course if Catherine and Eleanor had not been placed together they could not have gone "through the first rudiments of an acquaintance" so soon...

Well, if Catherine likes her and gets along with her...Now, granted, she is naive and cannot see through her, whereas Eleanor could; but Isabella must at least be able to put on an air of pleasantness and amuse a literate companion well enough to be friends with Catherine.
