] My theory is that someone at the publishing house was deliberately playing a joke on their company and their readers. The quotations on the jacket and inside prove that someone has read it sufficiently to find psueso-Gothic quotes. Perhaps a JA appreciator in pulp-romance-purgatory used it as a Trojan horse.
