GR: Partial to the clergy   Written by Cheryl (4/2/2003 3:08 p.m.) in consequence of the missive, GR: Isabella's past, penned by Cherie
Are you new?

] We're told that when Catherine tells her of the divine Henry, IT sighs and indicates she's had her heart broken by a clergyman.

I read this differently. Here's the quote:

"She liked him [Mr. Tilney] the better for being a clergyman, 'for she must confess herself very partial to the profession'; and something like a sigh escaped her as she said it."

I didn't take this as meaning that she'd had her heart broken by a member of the clergy, but as a hint to Catherine about her brother James, who is at Oxford. While it isn't stated that James is studying for the clergy, his father is a clergyman, and I think a reasonable assumption can be made as to James' future profession.
