] The other two are ambivalent. She's not SURE whether she can venture to laugh can be taken to mean either (1) she is not sure it is polite to laugh at the foibles of others (2) she's not quite sure if he is joking.

I know she doesn't laugh - but I don't think that Catherine is coy enough to completely squelch her laughter from her eyes and her smile. Henry must have known she was amused and on the verge of laughter. She's very honest by nature after all!
