I don't think this passage refers to any actual adventures and sufferings, only the mundane details of Mrs. Thorpe's life that she seems to enjoy telling the world, whether or not the world is interested. I saw it as more of the delightful satire that fills these first 8 chapters. But perhaps I am wrong?
