GR: I am glad I joined the Group Read!   Written by Geertje (3/31/2003 2:50 a.m.)
Are you new?

When I read NA for the first time a few years ago I didn't really like it. I thought it was such a "style-break" (ok, this is a literal translation of a Dutch word) from JA's other novels. I thought it was strange that she was speaking to the reader directly from time to time and I really didn't "get" the Gothic novel parody. Now that I have learnt some more about JA (ok, replace with "have become a total obsessive") I am enjoying NA so much more.

It just makes more sense to me now I realise in what period of her life Jane wrote NA and now I have read some of the novels that JA is mentioning in NA. I also seem to like Catherine much better than on first reading. I remember the first time I thought she was a rather silly and naieve girl and now I just adore her. Hey, maybe I will become a Tilney fan one of these days!
