GR: She Won't Stand Up   Written by J. Dillehay (3/30/2003 7:56 p.m.) in consequence of the missive, Miss Andrews, penned by Irene M
Are you new?

] Yes, I agree. I like how she uses her other friend Miss Andrews to make her point about what a great friend she is to her, calling her "an angel" in one breath, then calling her "insipid" in the very next breath. Not very friendly words, IMO. I wonder what Isabella would say to others about Catherine when she's not around.

I agree, also in Ch.8, when James importunes Isabella to dance, and John Thorpe is in the card-room, one minute Isabella says that she will not stand up without dear Catherine for all the world (lest they be seperated for the entire night), and then the next minute she excuses herself as she goes and dances with James. Like her brother, she seems to have an extraordinary talent of making contradictory statements almost in the same breath.
