GR Funny you should see him that way   Written by Vicki I. (3/30/2003 4:48 p.m.) in consequence of the missive, GR: John Thorpe - Used Car Salesman, penned by Cheryl
Are you new?

] ] At first, I didn't understand why he was making such a big deal about it, but after further thought, it struck me, he was describing his ride as someone would a sportscar nowadays. When I realized that, I couldn't stop laughing! JA's brilliant =D

] Isn't it fab? Someone once said that John Thorpe would be a used car salesman today. I can see that.

because that's what he made me think of the very first time I read the novel. Several of the guys where I work are die hard car enthusiasts, Corvettes to be specifice. One day KB had everyone follow him out to the parking lot to see his latest acquisition, a vintage corvette he had purchased on Ebay.

I was about halfway through NA at the time and, as he was going on and on about the virtues of the car: horse power, engine size, convertible top, four-on-the-floor and so on--- it hit me:
If the curicles in NA had been sports cars, that's exactly what John Thorpe would have driven! A 1958 two-tone Corvette Sting Ray Convertible! You can bet he'd have haggled the price down too and the bragged about what a deal he made.

Hmm I wonder what our Henry would drive? Vicki I.
