GR - A courageous heroine!   Written by CarolTS (3/30/2003 4:04 p.m.)
Are you new?

I found it really interesting that the first time Catherine speaks to Henry, she actually has the guts to disagree verbally with him (about a lady's supposed ability to write charmingly)! Now to me, this is amazing considering that she routinely hides her real feelings (or disavows them in the face of all that superiority) with most other people - especially James and Isabella. Henry must have put her so much more at ease - another indication that he has true heroic qualities while her other friends do not because he creates an atmosphere that allows her to speak her own mind and even laugh at him and come close to calling him strange (luckily interrupted by Mrs. Allen and her rhapsodies of Bath and shopping!;). Courage where it really counts - courage in ideas and expression - are brought forward by Henry and no one else.
