How many miles?   Written by Captain Everett (3/30/2003 12:12 p.m.) in consequence of the missive, GR: John Thorpe - Used Car Salesman, penned by Cheryl
Are you new?

In Chapter 7, John Thorpe insists the distance is twenty-five (not twenty-three) miles, despite the "authority of road-books, innkeepers and milestones".

But, about two pages later, when he offers to take Catherine for a ride tommorrow, she tries to disuade him,

"Thank you, but will not your horse want to rest?"
"Rest! he has only come three-and-twenty miles today...."

Jason E.
