GR: duel parody   Written by Tara O'Donnell (3/30/2003 9:31 a.m.) in consequence of the missive, I feel as if JA was parodying her own novels., penned by Clementa
Are you new?

] NA is a parody of the Gothic, but also of the own style of the author. At last it is how I feel it:-) Jane Austen's novels were "classic" in a sort of way: marriages, social conventions, fashion etc etc. NA is aparody of all this. Just look at "S&S", by exemple, and you'll see clearly the NA is JA's parody of her own novels.

I have read some of Anne Radcliffe's MoU and the style of language is clearly an influence on JA. I think that JA is mocking both Gothics and some of her earlier works(as one of the other posters pointed out-sorry,not sure who!). Jane Austen,IMHO,is a writer who does take herself too seriously-as it was said in another book"what are we for but to make sport for our neighbors and laugh at them in our turn?". Hope I quoted correctly!
