Group Read Guidelines   Written by Cheryl (3/29/2003 12:50 a.m.)
Are you new?

As we seem to have quite a few first-timers to a Pemberley Group Read, I thought I'd take some time here and elaborate on the Group Read Guidelines which can be found at the bottom of the Schedule (linked at the top of the board.) These guidelines have been developed over the almost 8 years of Pemberley's existance and they really do make things run very smoothly indeed, so please keep that in mind if some of them seem a tad anal-retentive. ;-)

  • Please use the identifyer "GR" in your subject line. This alerts everyone that this post is directly related to the Group Read, rather than just your basic post. For example, Ann2's subject line might read

GR: Ch. 3 - Henry Tilney, Hubba Hubba! (Or the Swedish equivelent.)

  • Please do not post "spoilers". Discuss only the chapters contained in the schedule. We may have some first-time readers and we don't want to "spoil" the book for them. And, forcing you to deal with only the chapters at hand, can offer you insights you might have missed by looking too far ahead in your thinking. There will be time at the end of the read for broad, Big Picture, Wrap-it-all-up type posts. But please avoid these during the read.

  • Please take advantage of the "Pop up the novel text" button located just under the list of mesesages in the thread. This a very handy-dandy text with a good search, and you will find it much easier to simply copy and paste in the text instead of typing it yourself. Please, do not quote huge blocks of text however, as we do all have it before us.

  • As always, liberal "Snipping" (or deleting) of text not relevant to your post is much appreciated and makes your post so much easier to read.

  • And lastly, have fun!

Please feel free to ask any questions you may have. Can't wait til tomorrow! ;-)
