NA2 also made Catherine more rustic than she was in canon e.g. the scene at her first dinner at the Abbey when she seemed to have awkward table manners -- nothing of that kind in canon. Catherine was not an heiress, but she was the daughter of a well-to-do gentleman clergyman -- her father "had a considerable independence besides two good livings" (chap 1), and she had a dowry of three thousand pounds (chap 31). John Thorpe was lying when he said she was the heiress of Fullerton, and he was equally lying when he said the Morlands were poor.
