in consequence of the missive, May I recommend a re-reading for you?, penned by kathleen (elder)
I've just finished re-reading Northanger Abbey. I am finding this imperative with the four Austen novels I've read so far. Because the writing is so packed with satire and subtlety, it's not like most books. You just can't see and figure out everything at once. While paying attention to one thing, you tend to overlook a lot of other things that are right there in the text. In fact, I recommend a re-read directly after you finish an Austen novel for the first time. It's amazing what I missed, and the writing is so delightful that it is fun to re-read even the parts I understood the first time around. This only deepens one's appreciation for the writing skills of the incomparable Jane Austen.
