I am in the midst of reading N.A. for the first time, and have just come to the part where Thorpe lies about the Tilneys going out in a phaeton with another young woman to get Katherine to go on an outing with him, his sister and K's brother instead. I was shocked not only at his boldfaced, manipulative lies, but even more so at his cruel heartless disregard of K's feelings as he ignored and laughed at her pleas to stop the carriage when she saw the Tilneys walking on the street and she wanted to join them because of her prior engagement with them. Bleah! Thumbs down, way, way down!
