I agree that General Tilney is an idiot. But it's his ability to thoroughly intimidate both Catherine and his own, fully grown children that makes him almost -- but not quite -- villainous. Someone as stupid, snobbish, and erratic as he is certainly shouldn't be in ANY position of power!
