Of all the great and memorable characters in NA, the one that tends to stay in my mind the longest after a read is not Catherine Morland, Henry Tilney, Isabella Thorpe, John Thorpe, or anyone other than General Tilney. While he isn't a villain, Jane Austen has given him some very disturbing traits. I can laugh at Catherine for imagining him as a Gothic villain, but I can't blame her for being a little afraid of his tyrannical behavior. Does anyone else find him kind of unsettling? I love the novel and even like the character, in spite of his "creepy" vibes.
