Why so skeptical about Tom’s and Sir Thomas’ changes? Fortunately and unfortunately I have experienced living away from those I love for extended periods and once surprised the docs by surviving illness. Both experiences forced me to examine myself and my past actions. I think the experiences made me a better person so neither Tom’s or Sir Thomas’ change as written is unusual or improbable in my book. Sir Thomas is only half changed when he returns from Antiqua. Maria’s adultery and elopement is a shocking eye-opener to both men, not just about Maria’s character but the part their actions played in the affair. Both men had good principles to begin with unlike Henry who, in the end, could not change. With their basic principles to build upon and the trauma of their experiences to kick start self-awareness their changes almost seem inevitable. (:D)
