He may be assured with women but I dont sense any great liking for them. Look how he hates the idea of dancing, and seems irritated by "lovers" when he ends up dancning iwth Fanny to avoid Mrs Norris...
I think he's too selfish to fall in love and too lazy to do more than the polite gallantry that is expected of a man in his position...
He is of an age to marry and Mary C is an attractive girl with a comfortable dowry. She would be a very suitable wife for him and would help the family fortunes that Tom has diminished.. but he's indifferent.
