in consequence of the missive, MP book and adaptations, penned by Nikki N
After finally finishing the novel I found MP1 and MP3 streaming on Netflix and watched both. I found the novel (and I can't believe I'm saying this about a JA novel) rather boring and dull until the last few chapters; I just couldn't figure out the point of it (let yourself be stepped all over for years, you'll eventually get your man? don't have an affair?). These two movie adaptions didn't make me think any better of it.
Of the two I saw I'd have to say MP1 was better though I still found it hard to watch. It was, I suppose, closest to the book, but I just didn't like most of the actors cast (I wanted to tie Fanny's hands to her side after a while, she always had them up in the air). As for MP3, I actually liked the actor and actress playing the Crawfords and I actually liked the way Lady B was portrayed (even though they had her much more aware of things than I believe Lady B was in the novel). Other than that, bleh. I got tired of seeing the tops of the girls' chests bouncing around and I can't picture Fanny always running around and giggling. Then there's the issue of how much was left out and changed.
I haven't seen MP2 yet but I'm now understanding why I've heard many say that there just isn't a good adaption of the novel (though now that I've finished it I can't say I'll be tempted to pick it up again anytime soon).
