|And it put me off Harold Pinter's entire body of work, for life.

Even though, like many of the actors, he did good work with what he had. I felt that as a writer himself, as a serious person of literature, he ought to have known better, and not gone along with the vandalism.
It made everything he had ever written seem trite,self-serving, hollow and hammy.
The only other actor that copped any residual resentment was Frances O'Connor, I couldn't be fair on her as Gwendolyn Fairfax in the Importance of Being Earnest - more a jade than a sophisticate, but maybe that is how she meant it to be.
Fortunately it did not put me off Johnny Lee Miller, although it is one of the weakest performances I have seen him in. (He did better as Charles Price in MP1, and as Mr Knightley, in 2009, and too obviously preferred to play Sick Boy in Trainspotting to a wooden Edmund in MP2).
