Not only one has to read the complete paragraph where the ordination reference appears to get that it was a change of subject within the letter, not from the theme of a novel to another, but also it is important to take into account her previous letter, from January 24th, where there is a reference that she had already written up to chapter 25 of MP (out of 49 chapters in total), because there were "just as many [people] for their round as there were at Mrs. Grant's". Of course by that moment, she needed to find more about ordination because Edmund was a few weeks from being ordained by then, Jane Austen needed to have details about such proceedings to avoid mistakes in the chapters she was about to write. |
