As Ramya has correctly pointed out, the "ordination" reference (from the letter on January 29th) has been frequently misinterpreted, including by R.W. Chapman himself.

Not only one has to read the complete paragraph where the ordination reference appears to get that it was a change of subject within the letter, not from the theme of a novel to another, but also it is important to take into account her previous letter, from January 24th, where there is a reference that she had already written up to chapter 25 of MP (out of 49 chapters in total), because there were "just as many [people] for their round as there were at Mrs. Grant's".

Of course by that moment, she needed to find more about ordination because Edmund was a few weeks from being ordained by then, Jane Austen needed to have details about such proceedings to avoid mistakes in the chapters she was about to write.
