I must disagree with the notion that Edmund does not deserve Fanny or that there are offenses he committed against her. Edmund does occasionally need a SUTH, but he is really a very good person, and someone who appreciates Fanny very well and stands up for her--even when no one else does. Fanny shows character growth through the novel as well. She learns to socialize (becoming friends with MC), becomes a sort of mentor to her sister Susan (echoing Edmund's role with her), and stands up her whole family in refusing HC's offer of marriage. |
