Ability to surprise   Written by LaurieC (5/18/2005 9:18 a.m.) in consequence of the missive, credibility is strained, penned by Tara O'Donnell
Are you new?

My apologies for not posting sooner, but I did myself an injury falling off my chair in disbelief upon the reappearance of Olivia! LOL! Although there were many preposterous twists and turns, I have to admire an author who is able to surprise me on a couple of occasions. Just when I thought I had seen it all...

Also, this pattern of speech may have been sprinkled throughout the novel, but I really picked up on it in chapter 31:

"Thou monster," cried my wife, "hast thou...feel thy cruelty..."

Do the "thys" and "thous" appear elsewhere in the novel, or is Mrs. Primrose simply in shock and has fallen back onto an earlier speech pattern which was phasing out during the time period? Maybe I'm just noticing this occurrence because there are several in this one sentence.

What a book! :-)
