I know what you mean...   Written by Line (5/12/2005 7:30 p.m.) in consequence of the missive, I agree about the kitchen sink, penned by Meg in Calif.

...but this novel seems to have been popular for a long time. JA mentioned the intelligent, educated Robert Martin reading it in "Emma", and Louisa May Alcott had Jo reading it for fun in "Little Women", set in the 1860s. It makes me wonder just what people saw in it (and what they were comparing it to!) I find its humour *is* funny, but beyond that, I'm not entirely sure what the big attraction was.
