Are you new?

"You shall have a draught upon him [Solomon Flamborough], payable at sight..."

"A draught upon my neighbour was to me the same as money..."

I think a draught is similar to a check, correct? But how exactly did this work? Was it considered a temporary loan (i.e., Solomon would pay the Vicar and then later collect from Ephraim Jenkinson)? Of course, I know this particular transaction was fraudulent, but did it work something along those lines?
