for daily wear, they did not wear such elaborate panniers. They may have worn some, but these wide panniers were mainly for court dress. I have heard (from a reliable costumer who specializes in that period), that the really wide hips like that one pictured above was not for everyday wear for most women.

I can't get the link Julie posted below to work! Darn!
