William Whiston was a vicar and professor/lecturer at Cambridge on natural philosophy and mathematics. He wrote religious treatises and lectured on astronomy. He left the Church of England in 1747 because of his objection to the Athanasian creed, and joined the Baptists. For information on the Athanasian creed, go to
