I've read going to church was a social event for people in the eighteenth and nineteenth centuries.
Mrs Primrose, Olivia and Sophia appear anxious to keep up genteel appearances whether out of habit, or vanity as the vicar thought.
Or, if to interest potential suitors, Mrs Bennet would approve!
