Winking etc.   Written by Reeba (5/2/2005 11:12 a.m.)
Are you new?

Barbara has noted some similarities with S&S, I see them too.

In addition I see a faint colouring of P&P.

Mr. Primrose winking at his daughter, trying to convey a message that she should not play the guitar for Mr. Thornhill.

Mr. Primrose commenting that '...I see no reason why fortune hunting women should not be contemptible too.' Sort of a discussion between Caroline and Darcy at Netherfields.

I must say I do like Mr. Primrose. He may sound like Mr. Bennet, but he does take charge of teaching/guiding his children and wife.
What is also likeable is that he doesn't force them to obey him.

He has warned his daughters against Thornhill.

I like the way he dealt with his women folk on their first Sunday regarding their clothes.
They were silly to dress the way they did in a place like this.
To be fair to them, they understood what he was trying to say and went back to change.

A comment he makes '...the very children in the parish will hoot after us', reminds me of a comment I made during the Emma GR on Emma's comment about Miss Bates being a proper sport for children. This is the kind of sport I was refering to.
