Lovely pictures! (I confess I'd thought catgut a forerunner to elastic! ;) )

The second picture appears to be a French-style dress (?) I wonder if Mrs Primrose's red dress even with rufflings and patchings was quite this opulent!
P:erhaps these pictures give us a clear idea how wealthy the Primroses had been, so what an adjustment for a family in reduced circumstances.
