He seems to be abit smug at times with the women in his life-particularly petting them on the head and telling them to run along and play(metaphorically speaking). I'm not sure if Goldsmith is mocking this behavior or not(maybe,like JA,he saw plenty of men of the cloth act this way and chose to paint broadly with his characters) but we shall see.
