...it might mean that as a vicar, and a man of god, he is not afflicted by worthly goods - or in this case - the loss of them.


There's an odd thing described in the beginning, how he gave away his possessions(even a horse) to guests, who were leaving and whom he/they never wanted to see again.
The tone of this novel seems very absurd to me. Anyone else feel the same?
