Some things I've noticed about the writing so far   Written by Line (5/1/2005 12:22 p.m.)
Are you new?

I notice that Oliver Goldsmith, unlike JA, had no problem using contractions: you'll, can't, she's, etc. I wonder if written English became more formal between the time Goldsmith and JA were writing. Also, Goldsmith came right out and used the word "pregnancy" in ch.1 - he didn't say "expecting" or use a euphemism like "olive branch". I also notice that his hero hardly ever just "says" anything - it's always "cried I". I wonder whether this was intentional or not - maybe Goldsmith was trying to make a little joke?
