A father deciding his sons' careers   Written by Line (5/1/2005 12:10 p.m.)
Are you new?

At the end of ch.1, I notice that *Mr. Primrose* is the one who decided what careers his sons should follow, and fairly early in their lives, it seems. "My eldest son George was bred at Oxford, as I intended him for one of the learned professions. My second boy Moses, whom I designed for business, received a sort of miscellaneous education at home." I know this was common at the time, and hopefully he took their talents and interests into consideration, but it is quite a change from today!
