Sophia's influence   Written by Robbin (11/4/2012 12:07 p.m.) in consequence of the missive, stupid charms, penned by Stephanie
Are you new?

If the meeting with Sir John (44) played out as Willoughby describes it, and I do not suppose it was very much otherwise, Sophia was not in her husband’s company. But, what of this?—I think her real influence with Willoughby probably died a split second after the marriage was official. Mrs. Jennings said Miss Grey’s fifty thousand pounds will not come too soon to save Willoughby from the poverty he so feared. I think once Willoughby “pocketed” the money he was decidedly less compliant than before. I can see him weaseling around to avoid an inconvenient ruckus while still following his own inclination.
