in consequence of the missive, Willoughby is never far from his own thoughts, penned by Robbin
Willoughby does not think better of people for falling for his charm, either. He approves of Sir John cutting him since his marriage, but practically brags that Sir John was stupid enough to manage a complete turnaround by seeing Willoughby's own sufferings.
I offer a wager: I bet that Mrs. Willoughby was not there when Sir John blustered out the tale of Marianne's imminent demise. Willoughby knows what part of his audience butters his bread. If Sophia Willoughby had been there, Willoughby would have covered his feelings, and would not now be sitting in the Cleveland drawing room, begging to be remembered kindly to the lady whose affections he decided was not worth £50,000.
