Willoughby of Allenham   Written by Robbin (10/26/2012 10:31 a.m.) in consequence of the missive, Wllougbhy, penned by bridget D
Are you new?

At Barton Cottage Willoughby introduced himself as “Willoughby, and his present home was at Allenham” (9). Sir John informed those at the cottage of his estate in Somersetshire. My point is Willoughby did not automatically introduce himself by mentioning his actual home. Was Willoughby known in Bath? If so, how does that affect his being honest with Eliza? I think he might stick to truthful generalities. If he told the truth or just enough to be useful to every young girl he seduced it’s a credit to Lady Luck an angry father, brother or guardian did not ceremoniously end his intrigues long before Col Brandon took his shot.
