honour   Written by Stephanie (10/22/2012 3:16 p.m.) in consequence of the missive, More on concepts of honour, penned by Mary Anne
Are you new?

I do not think Lucy thinks anyone has any honour -- that is not based on acting in their own best interest.

She is so blind to the harm she does her own image in other people's eyes, that I think she has a plan in case each of the people who have the power to hurt her, ever try. Doubtless, if Edward tries to break it off with her, she will take him to court for breach of promise. If Elinor spikes her secret with Mrs. Ferrars, she will tell Edward who is to blame for all the trouble that ensues.

She either thinks that Elinor and Edward are weak, as she manipulates them, and they do not find the compunction to resist it; or she thinks they see her plan to turn the tables threatening, and are checked by it. I simply do not see that she ever recognizes a quality that she so entirely lacks -- not even to take advantage of it.
