Remnants of the epistolary form?   Written by Barbara (10/18/2012 10:37 p.m.) in consequence of the missive, What long speeches, penned by Tom P2
Are you new?

Although it has been disputed, it came down from JA's family that S&S was first written in epistolary form and titled Elinor and Marianne,. Long speeches such as these --and Colonel Brandon's 'confession' in Ch. 31--seem like they might have been in a letter form in the earlier incarnation. Does Elinor's speech seem like it could have been an altered letter?
