I think that maybe it was largely Sir John who made hints that Col B should marry the "mostrously pretty Charlotte.". and Col B turned a deaf ear... and in the end Mrs J who isn't a fool, could see it wasn't going to work out so she told Charl that it wasn't a good enough match for her. ANd Mr Palmer is probalby richer than Col B.
