Look up 'grumpy' in the dictionary and you're liable to find a picture of Mr. Palmer. Mrs. Palmer seems to have a little of Miss Bates in her and Mr. Palmer a little of Mr. Bennet in him. In reality who would be more obnoxious? The negativity of Mr. Palmer or the full-throttle pleasantness of Mrs. Palmer? The polar extremes of the conversation in Ch 20 is classic Jane Austen.
