showing feelings   Written by bridget D (9/29/2012 2:30 a.m.) in consequence of the missive, Phases, penned by Frances G
Are you new?

But that's the point of the difference between Elinor and Marianne. JA isn't saying that calm people of sense feel nothing or that they are "cold hearted" as it seems to Marianne. She's saying that they have feelings too, but they control them. They dont allow their anger or greif or love to control them. Elinor suffers problaby as much as Marianne does in a way, when she loses Edward. But she does not show it ot others, so as not to distress them and to preserve her own dignity. Marianne DOES show her feelings and possibly by so doing, by indulging in them, makes herself suffer all the more...and she makes others suffer too...
